Welcome to my new blog about the production, locations, recycled actors, and pretty much everything I enjoy about the four-season run of Dragnet in color (1967-70).
I like the black and white episodes as well, but the color series is the focus of my attention. I cannot promise that the black and white series will be absent. (Stay tuned for my assessment of the Christmas episode - the one in which the statue of baby Jesus gets kidnapped - as it is a remake of the 1951 episode.)
As in my Wonder Years Mom blog, I'll probably wind up throwing around some crass language.
Unlike The Wonder Years, I actually really like Dragnet.

ReplyDeleteFun site! I've been here a few times after watching episodes recently. I was just over at the recently opened (within the last few years) LAPD Topanga Station in Canoga Park and was surprised to see a brass plaque celebrating Dragnet inlaid in the cement outside. It features Friday and Gannon's badges and police IDs.
ReplyDeleteOh! Thank you for commenting! I didn't know about the Topanga station. I'll have to check that out if I can get to the West Coast. I read about how when Jack passed away, 714 was retired and he was given a real police funeral.

Suzy - Seeing as you like mid-century architecture and California style, there is a website you should see called Dear Old Hollywood in which the blogger shows stills from movies. Check out his treatment of a Bob Hope film from 1961 called Bachelor in Paradise. Lots of shots of burgeoning suburban LA with pics of the homes then and now. The movie is really funny also but difficult to find anywhere. I tunes sells it for $10 but that's beside the point. I think you would appreciate the architectural study he does of this movie. KennyP
ReplyDeleteI have recently decided that I love Dragnet. Back in the Sixties Dad used to watch it, and I thought it terminally unhip, authoritarian and heavy-handed. But now it's just plain fun! The City is MY Los Angeles - 1967-1970.

I found this blog by accident quite a while back while searching for information about a certain Dragnet episode. Been back here several times since for the same reason and have been impressed with the time and effort that must have been necessary to produce such detailed descriptions. I also enjoy seeing the old photos of Los Angeles. I used to live there, long ago. Randy
Hey, Thanks for writing. My Dad passed away and I got distracted. In order to finish, I have to re-binge-watch the whole series so I'm fresh. I'll do it eventually. I'm just not there right now.
