"Burglary - DR 31" or "21st Century Schizoid Man"

THIS IS THE CITY
WHERE JACK WEBB RAMBLES A BIT

Another memorable episode awaits us - the legend of our fan-obsessed friend, Mr. Crusader.
The Caped Crusader - no - that's not it - The Crimson Crusader.
Was there no end to what Jack would put our boy Timmy Donnelly through?
He already cast this guy to be a smartypants that accidentally took part in infanticide.

This guy is crazy…

CRAZY UNDER-APPRECIATED

I LOVE THIS!
They are hitting us with great grayscale images of the early days of film - then the cut is made with footage from another dead lady episode.

This riverboat thing is cool, right? But this pull back is totally bizarro…

… What are we even seeing, Dragnet?

Ah… Let's just go back to Parker Center…

It's all good…. the walls are green! Yes!

FUCK THEY BROKE BILL

WELL ACTUALLY THEY DIDN'T
BECAUSE NOTHING CAN BREAK ME

HOLD THE PHONE

(I love it! Look at the guy in the background - brown stripe tie and a brown suit?
Vincent Dee is in the house!)

Captain Lightening Versus The Martian Devils.
A PHONE BOOTH
Well, then!

Let's catch up with John Nolan on some boring-looking soundstage.

We had an older investigation involving a movie house AND Mickey Sholdar.

(I mean, it's wonderful - and it has John Malkovich in there - I just never thought we would link to it.)

Hollywood Arts Book Store New & Used Books Periodicals Manuscripts.

Great lettering there at "Joe Granger's Model Agency" - the white sconces are nice - a bit like ice cream cones.

Who do we have, here? A guy with a neat office and a far-out tie?

Great set! Wonderful "old office of a showbiz-type" - mismatched wood furniture.
All they did was doll up some regular brown panels. Probably pulled something from the Hall of Justice set? Whatever! It's ok.

THIS TIE REALLY STEALS THE SHOW

MICKEY SHOLDAR
REPORTING FOR DUTY

He's dressed the same colors as the set.

The above sequence means nothing because here comes Robert Brubaker!

And his set - of course -

Another image of a boat - and a clue - wax from a candle.

The Jose Cuervo billboard clip:

Don Ross, evading latent prints detail again!

Vince Williams?

Vincent put together a pretty tight getup for King Crimson over here.

Commander Jupiter!
Amazing Boy!
Captain Lightening!

Super Flame!

Poor Timmy!
I wish my life had meaning, too.

    1. He sure did some baffling things sometimes. The brown suit/tie was pretty hip, I thought.

  2. This episode made me realize what a total prick Joe Friday was. Come on arresting this poor kid?

  3. Good heavens, they really laid the pathos on thick in this one, didn't they?

1.) That Rex Theater marquee art is the worst!
2.) Did you notice that the Crimson Crusader's costume mainly featured blue and green?
3.) Tears at the end - that kid was crying up a pint!
4.) So - is Stanley Stover television's first incarnation of the 21st C. Fanboy?

  4. Oh man, I felt so bad for poor old Stanley Stover! A loner, bullied at school, and no Dad - when he goes into that "fat kid" speech,...OUCH!

Maybe if Stanly had known the other loner kid, Gerald Paulson - from se02ep01 The Big Grenade' - maybe, you know, they could have become friends, gone to the Captain Lighting movies together at The Rex Theatre, or had their own Backyard Record Party and purposefully NOT invite Ricky Schneiderman, or with proper adult-supervision, they could have started a Community Vegetable Garden on that vacant lot out-back behind the Georgia Street Juvenile Station.

    Shame.

    1. I was keeping the blog really steadfastly when then my father passed and I really dropped the ball. I still have all the remaining screen shots. I just have to binge watch all four seasons again and get back to work on this awesome blog !! I owe it to you, Jack, Harry, and my Dragnet Family !! Be patient with me :) That's all I ask.

    2. Sorry to hear. I have enjoyed reading these posts after each episode. Last night I noticed Hulu also has the 2003/2004 version of Dragnet with Al Bundy, I watched it at the time and didn't like it.... I think I still don't, he was really miscast, Miguel Ferrer would have been a perfect Joe Friday for a Dragnet remake. It also lacked the deep respect Jack had for the LAPD, I also don't think they were based on true stories, at least I didn't notice them mentioning it in the opening.
